The Girl Behind The Blog “Dreams Of A Wanderess” – Liebster Award Winner!

Guess what? I’ve won my first blog award! ;DD

YES!!! Dreams Of A Wanderess proudly receives the Liebster Award and I would like to thank Vanda of The Yogi Wanderer for nominating me. It is an honor to receive such an award. This is a great opportunity to get to know  fellow travel bloggers and for my readers to know more about me as well. Ready to get to know the girl behind this blog? 🙂

But first, what is a Liebster Award?

The Liebster Award is an online award given to new bloggers by other bloggers. “Liebster” is a German word that means “the dearest”. The Liebster Award is a way for bloggers to recognize fellow bloggers for their work and excellence. The nominees/award winners should then pay it forward by nominating/awarding other bloggers they admire and follow.

Rules of the Liebster Award:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you and post a link to their site on your blog.
  2. Display the award on your blog.
  3. Answer 10 questions about yourself, which will be provided to you by the person who nominated you.
  4. Nominate 5-10 other bloggers for the award.
  5. Create a new list of questions for your nominees to answer.
  6. List these rules in your post.
  7. Inform the people/blogs that they have been nominated for the Liebster award and provide a link for them to your post so they can learn about it.

Here are the questions I got from Vanda:

1| When and how did you start traveling?

Being born in Hong Kong with Filipino parents, I started traveling back and forth the Philippines at a very young age. But that seemed like a routine and it wasn’t very special. So I consider my first travel experience to Boracay as the start of my wanderlust, a place that deeply set my desire to see more of the world. It will forever be my happy place.

2| What was your favorite destination so far?

This is a hard question to be honest! But If I had to choose ONE, it would be Railey Beach in Krabi, Thailand – where I discovered an almost hidden bohemian café at Railey East. It lies at the very end of the beach, surrounded by nature. I traveled solo and the trip was quite life changing. I learned a lot of things about myself.

I've been getting a lot of messages recently from my followers telling me how my adventures inspired them to do the same. And I just want to say THANK YOU for all the love and support!!! ❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘 You have no idea how much it makes my day to read all of your messages and kind words. ☺️😉 I'm now currently in Vietnam and this will be my home for the next few months. Good news is that I will finally have a break from traveling and free time to work on my blog. 💻 I know that some of you have been patiently waiting for me to share my experience in details. I'm currently working on a destination guide for PHUKET! So stay tuned for that. 🌴☀️🌊 It's making me miss the beach so much!!! So here's a photo of my favourite place in Thailand. 💕 #travellife

3| Name a place you did NOT like and why.

Cambodia. I have a love-hate relationship with this country. Don’t get me wrong, They have THE BEST food! The Angkor Wat is amazing and I love the local parks in Phnom Penh. I’ve also met the most generous and kind people as and when I was there. But I just didn’t like the high rate of tourist scams.

4| What do you like the most about traveling?

What I love most about traveling is the opportunity to gain new experiences, especially when you face unexpected events that really push you out of your comfort zone. Like spending your very last dollar and you have no idea what to do next. Or risk living with a stranger, almost missing your flight, getting stopped by the local police, getting lost in the middle of the night, etc There were too many events that happened, some even had me break down in tears. But I would gladly do it all again. Travel is a crazy rollercoaster ride!

It wasn't that easy to get here, but this view makes up for all the stress we went through. // 📍PHUKET 🌅

5| If you could take only ONE more trip in your lifetime where would you go? Why?

GREECE. I remember seeing a photo of the Santorini sunset back in highschool. And I promised myself on that same day that I will go there. I searched for flight tickets right away just to get an idea how much I have to save. At that time, the cheapest I found was HK$36,000 for a return trip to Hong Kong. That’s when I lost hope. What can a broke highschool girl can do, right? But now that I gained more knowledge on trip planning and flight booking hacks, it doesn’t seem so impossible anymore. Wait for me, Santorini!

6| What was the most important thing you learned about yourself while traveling?

One thing I’ve learned during my travels was to believe in myself, to believe that I CAN, that I’m capable of achieving my wildest dreams. And that it doesn’t matter if I failed, it’s the journey that counts.

7| What was your best travel moment so far?

There’s too many to choose from! But one of them is my experience being an elephant keeper for a day at Chiang Mai, Thailand. I met an elephant named Chong Bai. Previously maltreated by her former owners. We looked at each other’s eyes and she smiled. I felt like like she was trying to tell me “you’ll be okay”. I somehow felt a great connection with this big fella since we were the same. We’re both on the road to recovery. And I’ll leave that story to another post! 🙂

One of my favorite pictures from the trip. 😘🐘 This is Chong Bai, a beautiful and gentle creature, that formerly worked for a tour or trekking company in Thailand. Look closely and you will see that she has a bald spot on her back because of the heavy wooden seats for the tourists! She suffered from long working hours just to satisfy the tourist demand and was often mistreated by her former owners. She was in a very depressed state when she was rescued by the Happy Elephant Home. It was really heartbreaking to hear her story, but I admit that I was SO close into being one of those innocent tourists who just wanted to 'experience' and get a nice profile picture sitting on top of that elephant, but not even aware that it's harmful for the poor thing. My advice is to do some research before you partake these activities and decide for yourself if it is ethical or not. 🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘#BeAResponsibleTourist #SaveTheElephants #NoRiding #Elephants #ElephantCamp #Thailand #ChiangMai #CNX

8| What was your worst travel moment so far?

I think I have no answer for this. Liked I said, I experience some difficulties while I was in Cambodia regarding tourists scams but I wouldn’t say that it’s the worst.

9| What’s one thing you can’t travel without?

I always travel with a camera (so that I can show everyone how amazing the world is), a notebook and a pen (yes, I’m old-school Haha I love writing my ideas on cute notebooks). But if I’m only allowed to bring ONE thing, then I guess I’ll have to deal with my phone.

10| What’s the first thing you do upon arrival to a new destination?

EAT. Enough said. Hahaha Just look at that!
